Home Software Max/MSP Patches Snapshot Matrix

Snapshot Matrix

This application is a tool for Live Performers that want a quicker way to reset any parameter changes in their set.

When you're working on a big set that has a lot of parameters "MIDI Learned", its quite a considerable task to get all these values back to a preprogrammed state in one go. You could load the set again, but what about the changes you made and the clips you added? You just want to press a button to set the parameters to where they should be and save your set.

The application is still in beta and will probably be changed in the future. Currently you can store 16 snapshots and those are stored in 16 4kb files. It would have been easier to have it all in one file, but the object intended for that purpose is being a bit of a pain. It does what it says on the tin though.

Installation

- Download the free Max runtime and follow the installation instructions that come with it.

- Download this folder and place it anywhere on your hard drive. (and keep the application within the folder)

Setup

The application needs to receive MIDI from Live's remote output and it needs to send MIDI back over a different port to Live's remote input. On osx you can use the runtime or IAC MIDI Drivers. On windows you will need an application such as MIDI Yoke.

For further instructions, please watch this video. The video is made with a previous version, but the main functionality remains the same.

Hi Danksager,

It is possible to modify the Max Patch to add MIDI Control.
Its not in there now because it might conflict with the MIDI Snapshots. But the change requires nothing more than a second MIDI input.

Cheers

This is a great application!

I have two questions:

1- Will Snapshot Matrix be recognized in Max for Live?

2- Do you plan to make Snaphot Matrix midi controllable? I need to recall the scene by pressing one button.
I do Livesets with Live and Control surfaces.
Imagine being in a very deep, weird, wild build-up and being able to come to the strict sound when the kick comes back, just pushing one button!
To instantly reset all macro controls to their saved values. One thing I love about the Machiendrum, you can tweak a pattern into oblivion, but hit one button combo and it instantly reverts the state it was saved at.

Hi Tabasco,

1) There will probably be a slightly altered version for Max for Live. But it will be updated.

2) I will add it to my todo list. It essentially just requires a second MIDI Input and a hardwired CC. I'll try to get this done as soon as I can.

Cheers

thx again.

would it be possible to add a cc filter to this? also instead of using midi to remote it, key strokes with ensurekeymessagesforplugins in the options.txt maybe would solve this. i dont know if max patches in max for live are seperate plugs ins or recognized as part of live.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the long delay. I've been too busy digging into Max for Live.
I do have an update ready however.
I will port this new version to M4L and then make new instructions on how to operate it.

The new version will be up later this week. I also got a device coming up that should blow the pants off every patch I ever made :)

Cheers

The new update can now be downloaded.
A M4L version won't be immediately possible after all. It turns out we still have to deal with the limitations of one midi channel per midi track.

Bjorn, you guys do really great work. I look forward to utilizing this with my live sets.

Thanks!

How about a version, where you have a snapshot for single clips .Like track 1 = midichannel 1, track 2 = channel 2 ... / Clip 1 = CC 1, clip 2 = cc 2 .... With one midi controlled save buttom ??? Just a sweet dream .Thanx for your App .
Vayner   |2009-12-14 02:26:42
There are many variations of that idea. I'm currently working on a variation in M4L where I can recall parameters to control when a clip is triggered.

Then you can have at maximum 16 tracks as there are 16 midi channels only and for each track 128 clips as there are 128 CC values possible for each midi channel. Why do you think this is not possible now?
Schneider  - Switching between Record Data and Output via Midi   |2009-12-14 02:06:40
It would be nice to be able to switch among "Record Data into Current Snapshot" and "Output" also via Midi. Also the pressing on the "circled button". 3 note/pitch events could be used for those. Or is this already possible? Then the entire "Snapshot System" could be controlled via Midi only without any mouse interaction.
Vayner   |2009-12-14 02:25:33
That does make sense. I'll add midi control over all the other functions in the next update.

Hi !
Great app here !
But, why it doesn't work with Keyboard learned stuff and only midi ?
Would be great to have a 'matrix like' launcher with two colored keyboard.

That would make a lot of clip to launch !

please update it! ithink many people want it.
best regards
